Since its establishment in 2006, this young and vibrant orchestra has brought music to life amongst many Malaysian youths and garnered numerous achievements.

How is this possible? I would say the keyword here is; “Nurture”. Many of these youths have a passion in something be it Maths, Arts, Science or Music. Each and every one of us needs to be nurtured at some point to bring out the best of our capabilities. The Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra understands the importance of nurturing especially to those who demonstrate promising potential and talent.

With this in mind, we continue to pull out all the stops to encourage young musicians to pursue their passion and love for music. What better way to do so then learning from and collaborating with professional musicians from the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra. It’s an exciting journey for those involved as they go through a series of activities including; intensive week long music camps, rehearsals and numerous concerts and tours. Throughout these activities, MPYO members grow and bond as a family.

Of course, MPYO would not be where it is today if not for the hard work, dedication and effort of Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor, Kevin Field and the MPO musicians for sharing their knowledge and expertise with these young budding talents.

In December 2009, MPYO performed in Singapore at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music and was well received by the audiences. This year, MPYO will yet again continue to deliver quality music via four concerts in March, June, September and December. Mark your calendar for these dates as they will perform exciting repertoire from composers such as Dvorak, Tan Dun, Verdi, Puccini, Vivaldi, Bernstein and many more.

Music is more than just perfecting one’s intonation or performing many repertoires. It is also about self discipline and respect for oneself and others. Do take this opportunity to be a part of this exciting entertaining experience!
